Our Rating: 4.6/5
The cheapest treadmill of ProForm’s Pro Series lineup, the SMART Pro 2000 is a fantastically well-rounded treadmill option for runners, joggers and walkers alike. While some treadmills excel in one category but seem to completely face plant in another, the SMART Pro 2000 is a prime example of what it looks like for a treadmill to click on all cylinders.
Throughout this review, we’ll explain in detail each of the features that combine to form a solid treadmill that won’t disappoint.
When it comes to a runner’s treadmill, you should be looking for something around 3.5 horsepower or above. How much more you go from there is dependent on how much consistent and steady usage your treadmill will get.
While the ProForm Performance Series has some awesome choices for walkers and joggers who prefer to take to it easy and utilize some incredible technology, the ProForm Pro Series is a much better fit for those looking to have tougher and longer workouts at a faster pace with a wider running surface and an increased decline to incline range.
What makes the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 so special is its attainable pricing for fierce power and glistening technology, making it the perfect first treadmill in a lineup meant to set a higher standards.
The 3.5 CHP3 MachZ Commercial Pro Motor will have you trekking with robust power behind your every move. Created specifically for high-usage, the commercial grade motor within this treadmill was crafted using high-quality parts to ensure it will steadily last through your sweaty routine.
Confirming that the ProForm Pro Series treadmills were built for fitness buffs on the move is the wider running surface that is far more suitable for routines that are more adventurous than a walk in a park. A top notch feature within the treadmill industry, the SMART Pro 2000 has a 22” x 60” running surface for you to move on, which is a substantially more than that of the same priced, yet less powerful ProForm Carbon T10 treadmill, which comes with a 20” x 55” tread space.
Additionally confirming that the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 treadmill is ready for the races is the 0-12 mph speed range and higher calorie burn inducing -3% decline to 15% incline range. This vast range of varying heights speaks directly to hardcore hikers and outdoor dabblers alike as it better simulates a road or trail workout in the real world, without you ever having to leave your home.
The ProShox Cushioning continues the outdoor workout mimicking, as it effortlessly works to emulate outdoor workouts. Even better, the ProShox Cushioning is multi-purpose and keeps your joint strain in check, meaning you’re able to go longer by reducing recovery time—an added protection we’re all in need of as life progresses and we subsequently age.
What impresses us the most is the considerably sized rollers this particular model is equipped with. The bigger the treadmill rollers are, the greater long-term protection your treadmill has as sizable rollers result in less wear on the motor, as well as less strain on the treadmill belt.
Furthermore, larger rollers directly decrease operational sound and create a smoother stride by ridding uncomfortable vibration. Not only big in size, the 2.5” rollers packed into the Pro 2000 are precision balanced and non-flex, making them the exact type of well-built roller you should be in search of on a treadmill. To understand how much large rollers can set you back, take a gander at the Life Fitness Platinum Club Series Treadmill, which holds 3.5” rollers, and will break the bank at over eight grand in price.
The ProForm SMART Pro 2000 has a lasting build that checks all the boxes when it comes to strong fitness treadmills.
Taking a live-action approach to exercise, the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 treadmill comes overflowing with streaming fitness classes led by first-class trainers. Known as iFit, this specialized programming allows you to have an interactive workout with a professional motivating and guiding your every step. Encouraging you to stress less, the fierce instructors are able to remotely alter incline, decline and speed depending on the class chosen.
Having a wide range of options is the bread and butter behind the uniqueness of iFit. Whether you thrive in a studio class setting or out and about in the world, the options through iFit are truly endless. Should you want to run on a beach in Fiji, hike in Switzerland or stroll through an Italian village, iFit has any workout mood covered.
Making iFit extremely valuable when it comes to rounding out your health is how it offers cross-training courses that grant access to workouts led by certified professionals far beyond your treadmill.
While iFit is free for a year after purchase, there is a membership cost once those 365 days conclude should you elect to continue it. Streaming the iFit content beautifully is the 7” HD touchscreen, situated proudly within the console of the SMART Pro 2000. The simple touch operation of this dynamic display will have you swiping and tapping through your active statistics, workout options and stored summaries with user-friendly ease.
Speaking of keeping track, the EKG Grip Pulse Heart Rate Sensor will instantly guide you to the most accurate readings so you can determine if you’re hitting your target heart rate by simply grabbing the handlebars. Furthermore, making the SMART Pro 2000 both fun and functional are the digital quick controls, which work to change your speed and incline levels fast while also saving electrical energy.
The dual 3” bluetooth speakers take wires out of the picture so you can play music freely without a tangled mess of plugs. Should you opt out of an iFit class and choose to catch the season finale of your favorite show, the integrated tablet holder with device grip design will cradle your smart device firmly in place with holder clamps as you run while being entertained.
When it comes to progressive technology facilitating a more diverse, stress-alleviating and comfortable workout, the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 generates a sensation of excitement instead of dread when thinking about upcoming exercise.
Let’s be honest, before purchasing something as pricey as a home treadmill, we as consumers want to be sure the investment we’re making is a trusted and lasting one. What makes the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 so cost effective are the high-end parts it’s been crafted with, its strong motor power and innovative technology.
It’s difficult to find a treadmill that doesn’t sacrifice on either construction or technology, as treadmills are often great in one area while dull in the other to keep the price down. That being said, this particular ProForm model is not only accurately priced, it’s also impressively well-rounded in balancing its features and build quality.
The cheapest option within the ProForm Pro Series, which is focused on power for greater activity potential, the SMART Pro 2000 treadmill is a very affordable buy for a tough workout and dazzling technology. Despite being the cheapest option within the Pro Series, the SMART Pro 2000 is actually a more workout friendly treadmill than the most expensive option within the Performance Series, the SMART 800i.
The highest-end model in the ProForm Performance Class, the SMART 800i treadmill is more expensive than the SMART Pro 2000. The higher price of the Performance 800i is the result of an HD touchscreen double in size, as well as a 15 pound greater weight capacity. That being said, that’s all you’re getting for the extra cost.
When it comes down to being built for serious usage, the bells and whistles on the Performance 800i don’t compare to the strength of the cheaper SMART Pro 2000. With 0.75 CHP more motor power, 0.9” larger rollers, four more inches of running surface width, -1% more decline, and a booty busting 5% more incline, there’s no question that the SMART Pro 2000 treadmill will give you a far greater workout.
Looking to other brands allows insight into competitive pricing. The NordicTrack T 8.5 S treadmill is the most comparable options on the market, as it also holds a 3.5 CHP commercial motor and iFit programming. Yet, the NordicTrack 8.5 S costs hundreds more and will only get you a 3” larger HD touchscreen and actually less in other areas such as 1” smaller speakers, 0.6” smaller rollers, two less inches of running surface width, 3% less incline and absolutely no decline ability.
If you’re looking to actually find a true competitor to the ProForm SMART Pro 2000, the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 treadmill fits the bill in every area and actually holds 0.25 more motor horsepower as well as a 3” larger screen—a difference that will cost you over $300 more. When comparing it to other models and brands, it’s easy to see why the SMART Pro 2000 is such a solid option.
Pros and Cons
One of our only gripes with ProForm is their less-than-stellar warranty coverage that leaves us wishing for more. While their treadmills are trustworthy and strong built, their warranty coverage doesn’t quite hit the mark.
While you’d think with a commercial-grade motor would come the commercial noise of a gym treadmill, what makes the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 treadmill truly optimal for a tougher workout within your home is that despite its revving engine, it functions quietly.
Furthermore, the admission ticket to iFit programming is an eye-catching opportunity to take hold of your fitness in a serious and personalized way. The membership itself is much cheaper than a gym membership when you consider one iFit membership accommodates up to four people, making it a worthy and far more convenient investment for you and your family.
As your workout causes you to heat up, the CoolAire fan equipped on this model brings a built-in breeze to simulate that oceanside feel so you can better control the temperature within your hard working body.
The price itself of the ProForm SMART Pro 2000 treadmill is a huge pro to acknowledge when looking at the vast and competitive treadmill market. This model outweighs much of the competition in well-sized and quality parts, a trustworthy motor and dazzling technology, all at a reasonable price-point.

Warranty and Guarantee
Rattling the cage of a peaceful mind is the warranty coverage ProForm includes on the SMART Pro 2000. Unfortunately, there’s no lifetime coverage to be found, nor is there any motor coverage. Motors are expensive and they bring forth a potential cost to consider should any repairs be needed down the line.
While fiercely built with high end parts which create commercial quality, it’s exactly the well-thought out build of the SMART Pro 2000 treadmill that has us wishing ProForm would’ve just offered some motor coverage to encourage us consumers to not worry.
If you feel alarmed, maybe you’ll find some peace in knowing that NordicTrack treadmills actually offer identical warranty coverage as ProForm. That being said, a 10-year frame warranty does seem slim when pondering the lack of any motor coverage. Thankfully, a 2-year parts warranty and 1-year of labor coverage is provided on the SMART Pro 2000.
Interestingly, we’ve found that higher tech treadmills, such as ProForm and NordicTrack, seem to provide less coverage as their own personal standard. We’re assuming this is what keeps the high cost of futuristic technology down on behalf of their business long-term so their beautiful treadmills are available at an attainable price for your household. After all, if you can’t afford a treadmill with high-end technology, you won’t ever get to experience the wellness value it brings to your health.
Summing Up This Review
The ProForm SMART Pro 2000 treadmill sticks out as one that has it all: state-of-the-art technology, space-saving folding design, commercial motor strength, a large running surface, and well-sized rollers. For hardcore gym buffs and even walkers and joggers that appreciate a well-rounded piece of machinery, this model from ProForm won’t disappoint.
